Land Trust Accreditation Commissioner Cindy Hunt-Stowell passed away in her home in Southbury, Connecticut on July 31, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was a founding member of the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, serving her third term. She helped establish many of the Commission’s internal systems and was a champion of continuous evaluation and improvement for the Commission and land trusts. She asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the accreditation endowment held by the Land Trust Alliance (The Berkley Endowment).
Cindy spent her business career at IBM, with assignments in systems engineering, software development and management. After retiring from IBM in 1992, she became actively involved in local conservation, environmental and philanthropic organizations, serving as a board member of Flanders Nature Center and Land Trust, Southbury Land Trust, and Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition, and providing pro bono consulting services in business process and management to the Connecticut Community Foundation and other nonprofit organizations. She was also a Master Gardener. She is remembered by the Commission for her passion, knowledge, wit and wisdom.
