This is shaping up to be a busy summer for the accreditation program as we prepare for the inaugural awards ceremony in September! Many people have also asked about how to apply in 2009 and we are pleased to be able to offer details in this update.
2009 Application Registration System and Fee Schedule | "I want to register my land trust as soon as possible for the 2009 accreditation cycle but my board has not had a chance to discuss the details yet. If we register in August for one round and my board later decides that another round would be more suitable, can we switch rounds?" When you register for a specific round you have committed your land trust to the application due dates for that round. You may not change your application round. Registration fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable. The Commission is providing information about the registration system now in order to give organizations an opportunity to discuss it before registration opens. We strongly encourage all interested land trusts to discuss the details of the registration and application process before registering. | The Land Trust Accreditation Commission is launching a new automated system for land trusts to register to apply for accreditation in 2009. The registration system, which will be available on the Commission’s website in early August, will allow land trusts to register for a specific 2009 application due date (“application round”). Land trusts ready to apply for accreditation in 2009 will complete an online registration form and submit an electronic payment of a $750 nonrefundable, nontransferable registration fee. Details on the opening date for registration will be available in late July. For more information on the registration system and the 2009 fee schedule, visit: http://www.landtrustaccreditation.org/getting-accredited/2009-application-registration-and-fees. Reminder: Call for Volunteer Commissioners The Land Trust Accreditation Commission is seeking individuals interested in serving as volunteer commissioners. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of the new land trust accreditation program, work with a strong team of commissioners and learn about conservation practices across the country. Volunteers must be willing to volunteer up to 30 days of service each year and serve at least one three-year term. For more information about commissioner responsibilities see http://www.landtrustaccreditation.org/home/29-about-the-commission/140-commission-member-position-description. Interested candidates must submit a summary of their qualifications online. Responses from candidates will be accepted through July 30, 2008. Read more. Comments on Current Applicants As part of the application process, accreditation applicants must notify their stakeholders of the opportunity to submit a comment to the Commission. We have been upgrading our website and know that some of you may have tried to submit a comment on a 2008 applicant but did not see their name listed on our map or public comment form. We apologize for any inconvenience. For a list of current applicants and more information on public comments, visit http://www.landtrustaccreditation.org/current-applicants/action-public-comment. Join us at Rally for the Inaugural Accreditation Awards Ceremony This year’s National Land Conservation Conference: Rally 2008, will be another historic one for the accreditation program – and the entire land trust community. The Commission will hold its inaugural accreditation awards ceremony during the Welcoming Dinner on Friday, September 19. We hope to see many of you in Pittsburgh, PA as we recognize land trusts being awarded the accreditation seal. We’ll also be hosting two workshops for land trust volunteers and professionals interested in learning more about the program, or current and future applicants looking for application tips -- Building on Your Organization's Success through the Land Trust Accreditation Program and Putting Your Best Foot Forward: Process, Tips and Pointers for Assembling a Land Trust Accreditation Application.
