Each year the Commission checks to make sure the accreditation requirements are current and up-to-date with the issues that shape the land trust community. After thoughtful consideration and review of the comments collected to date, the Commission is proposing changes to a few requirements.

Providing financial oversight is one of the key responsibilities of a land trust board. Receiving and reviewing financial reports helps ensure the board has the information necessary to monitor the financial health and fiscal management of the land trust. The accreditation requirements in the finance section include specific elements that the financial reports to the board need to include: 1) a statement of financial position (or other report) that tells the board what net assets are without donor restrictions, with board-designation, or with donor restrictions and 2) a budget-to-actual report that includes expenses, revenue (unrestricted and restricted) and any revenue released from restrictions.

Rally 2020 was filled with new experiences for all participants. Not only was it the first, all-virtual Rally but also, for many people, it was the first they attended. With nearly 3,800 attendees from 49 states and five countries, it was the largest Rally to-date!

In August, the Commission conducted an open lottery enrollment period for 2021 first-time applications. We are excited to announce the 19 land trusts who will be embarking on the journey of applying for accreditation in 2021.
